Living Streets is the national charity that stands up for pedestrians. They have been the national voice for pedestrians throughout their history spanning 80 years. In the early years, their campaigning led to the introduction of the driving test, pedestrian crossings and 30mph speed limits. Today they influence decision makers nationally and locally, run successful projects to encourage people to walk, and provide specialist consultancy services to help reduce congestion and carbon emissions, improve public health, and make sure every community can enjoy vibrant streets and public spaces.
Taylor Street - Blackburn
The film above is one in a collection of six films covering six of Living Streets award winning projects. In this particular example, it features a project to improve an underpass on Taylor Street, an area of Blackburn. Each film focused on the remarkable achievements of local residents in improving their local area.
All six films were shown as part of 'Walk 21', a conference in Vancouver.
Storymakers TV worked closely with the organisation staff to make sure that everything ran to schedule, despite filming happening across the country. The final film has been of great value to us as an organisation, those who saw it said it really helped them to understand what we do when working in challenging communities, and see the impact we have on people’s lives. It was voted as a highlight of our year as an organisation, and we are now using the film to show to local authorities that are interested in buying into our service.
